Hello everyone! My name is Maria, I’m an online Italian teacher and I come from Naples, Southern Italy, but I’m currently living in Coimbra, Portugal, where I’m doing a PhD in Social Sciences. I have always been passionate about languages, besides Italian and Neapolitan, my mother tongues, I have studied English and French, and for this reason I have lived in London for a few months and in Brussels for one full year. Right now instead I’m studying Wolof, Soninke and Portuguese.
I started to teach Italian online almost two years ago and so far it has been an amazing adventure! I have met people from all over the world and I have had the chance to exchange experiences, knowledge, ideas with all of my students across all the continents. I also realized how my language is perceived outside my country… and I must confess I had no idea that so many people wanted to learn Italian! Thanks to the online language community I have learnt so much during this journey and that’s why I would like to keep on going on with it until it would be possible for me.
Currently, besides Italian, I’m focusing on the studying and the teaching of Italian dialects, especially Neapolitan, which is my city’s dialect. In these past months I have been asked from many students about Italian dialects, so I decided to find a proper way to teach Neapolitan and I have received a lot of requests! I was so surprised and flattered because I didn’t expect that it could become something so popular! At the moment I’m thinking of different projects about languages that I would like to bring to light and one of them concerns Neapolitan dialect.
