How to Teach a Language Podcast
Welcome to the How to Teach a Language Podcast, formerly the SLA Workshop Podcast. This is a podcast for those of you who teach one-on-one language lessons in person or using a platform that enables you to teach long distance lessons online.
In this podcast, I am going to share with you what I know about teaching and learning languages based on my knowledge from the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), the field that studies every aspect of how we learn languages as well as my own experience teaching Spanish and English and my own journey learning languages.
The goal of the podcast is to help you become a more informed, reflective and effective language instructor. The more you know about how we learn a language, the better equipped you will be to teach your students more effectively and have long lasting effects from your teaching approach. The more know about SLA, the more effective you will be at designing more effective lessons for you students.
If you want to read more about me, you can visit my About Joel page on the home page and you can read about me and my qualifications. In brief, I hold a bachelor’s degree in Spanish, and I have two master’s degrees: a master’s degree in Spanish and a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. In both graduate degrees, I directed my studies to Second Language Acquisition and have taught English and Spanish to many students. I speak Spanish, English, French, Italian and Portuguese. I love learning languages and love teaching languages, and I hope that with this podcast, I can help you become a more informed, reflective and effective language teacher.
